UNHCR urges countries to resettle as many refugees as possible in 2020 to prevent refugees from losing resettlement opportunities, and to maintain resettlement quotas in 2021.

According to the report, despite the impact of the new crown epidemic, UNHCR has been working hard throughout the year to identify and process resettlement applications, submitting files for more than 31,000 refugees.

According to reports, some countries have established or expanded their capacity to adopt flexible processing methods and manage the travel of resettlement refugees safely through appropriate recommended procedures.

UNHCR is encouraging other countries to do the same.

UNHCR Assistant High Commissioner Gillian Triggs said, “Expanding safe and legal protection, including resettlement, can save refugees’ lives and reduce their dangerous travel by land or sea.”
