Snow chaos and strong winds - The Swedish Transport Administration warns of flying trampolines

Hold the hat - and the steering wheel. Thursday looks to be tough in large parts of the country with both wind and snow chaos. In the southwest, the Swedish Transport Administration has decided to stop train traffic and in Norrland they warn against driving without winter tires.

Yesterday, SMHI issued ten weather warnings - among other things, these are very strong wind gusts in Västra Götaland, Västmanland, Halland and Uppsala counties.

In the north, it is instead snow that is expected to cause a nuisance and in Västerbotten, SMHI has issued a class two warning where it may fall up to 30 cm of snow.

Bengt Olsson, press manager at the Swedish Transport Administration, raises a warning finger to the northerners who are going out on the roads today.

- Snow and strong winds are the absolute worst combination.

We will see what happens during the day, but I hope that everyone in Västerbotten has had time to change to winter tires because it will be needed during the day, he says in Morgonstudion.

Summer tires get worse already at +5 degrees

How to park the car if you have not changed to winter tires?

At least Bengt Olsson thinks so.

In Gävleborg, the rescue service has also been busy clearing blocked roads.

Canceled train traffic on the West Coast

On the West Coast, it is not snow but strong winds that can hit the traffic hard.

- If you have high transports, you must be extra careful.

It is mainly bridges that are exposed when the wind comes from the Skagerrak and Kattegat.

The railway is also affected and the Swedish Transport Administration has suspended train traffic on a number of lines in western Sweden.

- Especially in Strömstad, Uddevalla, Varberg and Borås.

This morning we have also been forced to cancel the Fryksdalsbanan up in Värmland and between Linköping and Västervik in Östergötland.

According to Bengt Olsson, these are preventive measures.

- If we let go of trains when the wind is very strong, we know from experience that trees can come running.

But it can also be about garden furniture that has not been fixed for the winter.

We have had in a number of cases where they have fallen on overhead lines or otherwise.

Bengt Olsson also warns of another, a bit odd thing, thing: trampolines.

- It is by far the most flying things that exist.
