The samples will be taken in the same way as the so-called PCR tests used today.
The difference is that the sample does not need to be sent for analysis to an external lab, but can be analyzed directly on site.
- We have ordered 250 devices that can run a test every twelve minutes.
So it will be able to relieve a lot, says Ann Söderström, health and medical care director in the Västra Götaland region.
Less effective than PCR tests
There has been a focus on PCR tests in the region as they have proven to be the most accurate in identifying covid-19 infection.
But now the need is increasing in several places in the region.
- There have recently been safer and more secure rapid tests that we ourselves have validated.
And now there is a need for faster answers, for example staff who need to go to work and want to rule out covid-19 infection, says Ann Söderström.
The new machines that will analyze the tests are expected to be delivered and start using in the coming weeks.
