In Burkina Faso, the presidential election will take place on Sunday, November 22, in "a climate of fear" in the face of the jihadist threat.

Among the candidates running for the first round is Eddie Komboïgo, the new face of the Congress for Democracy and Progress (CDP).

This party, that of ex-president Blaise Campaoré, had governed for 27 years before being overthrown by huge demonstrations in 2014.

Eddie Komboïgo, a 54-year-old chartered accountant, intends to restore the luster of yesteryear to a party, which is making a comeback, after being banned from participating in the 2015 elections. "There is no fundamental criticism of governance of the CDP because (this party) governed the country in peace, equity and development ", explains the candidate for France 24." We now have data which shows that the governance of yesteryear was better than what we've seen for the past five years. "

Another candidate: Zéphirin Diabré, the leader of the opposition for several years.

He too hopes to dislodge outgoing President Roch Marc Kaboré from the presidential palace in Kosyam.

But for Dieudonné Zoungrana, a specialist in Burkinabè political life, Sunday's vote has another stake.

"There is a match in the match between Eddie Komboïgo and Zépherin Diabré: failing to be (elected), Eddie Komboïgo could be satisfied with the title of leader of the opposition (instead of Zéphirin Diabré, editor's note) ".

Yéli Monique Kam is, for her part, the only woman present among the thirteen candidates in the first round.

This is her first candidacy, but this business manager believes in her chances.

"I am a mother of children, I am saddened to see my children die at the front," she said.

"My social project carries the deep aspirations of the Burkinabè people, namely peace, security, work, quality education."

If none of the thirteen candidate members wins an absolute majority on Sunday, there will be a second round.

President Kaboré's camp hopes to avoid this scenario.
