He was sentenced in first instance to life imprisonment by the Assize Court of Bouches-du-Rhône for having ordered the assassination of his mother-in-law, the Monegasque billionaire Hélène Pastor.

Wojciech Janowski filed for release less than two weeks after his appeal trial was further postponed.

A request justified by the "unreasonable delay" between his detention and his judgment because he has been in prison for more than six years, his age (71 years) and his state of health, according to his lawyer, Me Jean-Jacques Campana.

"He could be domiciled in the Var"

"He could be domiciled in the Var, live with his retirement of 2,500 euros per month and be free to be able to defend himself during his new appeal trial" whose dates have not yet been set, he adds.

The investigative chamber of the Aix-en-Provence Court of Appeal will study his request on December 9 at 2 p.m.

His appeal trial has already been postponed twice: in March, interrupted by confinement, and in early November.

On November 2, the defense lawyers had in fact jointly demanded his dismissal, due to the health context and the request for the disjunction of the alleged shooter, whose lawyer was detained by another trial.
