A woman died on Tuesday, a week after being seriously burned in a car in Bully-les-Mines, in Pas-de-Calais.

The victim's companion was indicted and imprisoned for these facts, we learned on Wednesday from the Béthune prosecutor's office.

In this case, a judicial investigation had been opened before the death of the victim for "attempted homicide by spouse".

The latter's companion was then placed in pre-trial detention, said the public prosecutor of Béthune, Thierry Dran.

During his hearings, "the respondent contested any intentional nature of the act during the flagrance investigation," said the prosecutor.

Sprayed with gasoline

According to our colleagues from

La Voix du Nord

, on the night of November 10 to 11, around 1:00 a.m., this young woman's companion had sprayed her with gasoline before lighting the fire.

Seriously injured, she had been transferred to the major burns service of the Lille University Hospital.

Aged thirty years, like his companion, the victim had been plunged into a coma.

She died on Tuesday from her injuries.

With this case, at least 68 feminicides have occurred since the start of the year, according to a count conducted by AFP.

In 2019, 146 women were killed in France by their partner or ex-partner, 25 more than the previous year, according to official figures.
