He is suspected of having strangled his companion.

A man was indicted Tuesday in Angers "on the count of murder on a spouse" and placed in pre-trial detention, about three weeks after the young woman, aged 27, was found dead, in an apartment in Angers.

Her husband had been arrested and taken into custody.

He was hospitalized under duress on October 30, the day after the tragedy, and was only brought before the investigating magistrate on Tuesday, the prosecution said.

He "faces life imprisonment"

The couple's two children, aged 4 and 8, were in the apartment at the time of the events, we learned on this date from a source close to the investigation.

The indicted "faces life imprisonment," said the prosecution.

Since the start of the year, at least 67 feminicides have occurred, according to a count conducted by AFP.

In 2019, 146 women were killed by their spouse or ex-partner, 25 more than the previous year, according to the latest official figures.
