On Tuesday, the Swedish Public Health Agency reported 61 new deaths and 15,084 new confirmed infections in Sweden since last Friday.

At the same time as the infection is increasing more and more again in Sweden, it now seems to be brightening somewhat in Europe.

- It is starting to calm down in Europe.

One can see in individual countries with a large increase early in the autumn that it is starting to level off.

We hope that this development continues even if it is far too early to say, says Anders Tegnell, state epidemiologist at the Swedish Public Health Agency.

"Depends on how good we are"

But if Sweden can follow the same pattern, it is too early to answer, says Tegnell.

- It seems that many countries follow a similar pattern during the autumn, with a rapid upturn that then slows down and turns into a downturn.

Whether Sweden will also follow this pattern and how slow or fast it will go is very difficult to assess.

It all depends on how good we are at following the recommendations we make.

At the same time, the Swedish Public Health Agency announced that it would extend the general councils in Uppsala and Skåne, which were the first to receive special councils, to 13 December in the two regions.

This means that only one region in Sweden is currently not covered by tightened corona councils - Jämtland Härjedalen.

Can become national councils

But at the same time, the Public Health Agency has the ambition to close all local general councils by 13 December.

The idea is then instead to present national councils during the Christmas and New Year holidays, as a lot of traveling between different regions is expected.

- Instead, we will then try to come up with national advice as we understand that it will be very difficult to understand exactly which advice applies otherwise.

We will return to it when it gets a little closer in time, says Anders Tegnell.
