The geriatric wards come to the elderly and fragile for medical care.

At the geriatrics in Nacka, there are two special departments for coronary care and two with other geriatric care.

Of the more than 70 who do not work in the corona departments, twelve have now tested positive for covid-19.

“Community-acquired infection”

- I think it is a socially acquired infection, that you have got it outside.

Then you may have spread it to colleagues at the hospital, but it probably came from outside, says Peter Johnson, operations manager at Capio geriatrics Nacka.

According to him, there is no infection among the patients in those wards and he feels confident that the infection will not spread to the patients.

- We have well-functioning safety routines and the staff wears protective equipment in their daily work.

“Consequences for if one can nurture”

It is not only in Nacka that the infection among healthcare staff is increasing.

The care association is receiving more and more signals of infection among its members, at the same time as the pressure on care is also increasing.

- I'm very worried.

The situation is already tight and increases the spread of infection and care staff become ill, there will of course be consequences for whether you can care, says Ann Johansson, vice president of the Healthcare Association.

According to Peter Johnson, it is difficult to fill the gaps.

Staff have had to work double shifts and hired staff have been brought in.

But he is not worried that patient safety will suffer.

- We adapt the location to the prevailing staff situation.

If we do not have staff, we do not have many places open.

But does that mean you can provide care to fewer?

- Yes it is true.

From that point of view, it affects medical safety in the region, so to speak.
