Yao Tandong, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and honorary director of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Research Institute, and Yuan Yaxiang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and researcher of the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, and other four scientist representatives met with Chinese and foreign reporters.

  At the press conference, talking about why the country attaches importance to the work of the Qinghai-Tibet scientific research, Yao Tandong said that this is because the Qinghai-Tibet scientific research has scientific and practical importance.

  The uplift of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau has changed the entire landform pattern of China, and has also formed the current geographical environment of China's rich east.

But also, the existence of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and all its changes will affect eastern China, the entire Asia, and even the northern hemisphere and the world. This is the importance of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

  [Explanation] Yao Tandong said that from the national level, the development of the entire country and the construction of ecological civilization are closely linked to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

  None of the more than ten major rivers in Asia did not originate from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Many of the resources reserves of our entire Qinghai-Tibet Plateau are the highest in the world, such as copper and chromium.

Because of its importance, the international community pays attention to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, because the changes in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau are not only (affecting) China, it will affect Asia and the world.

  [Explanation] Yao Tandong introduced that after many years of scientific research work on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, he has experienced tremendous changes in scientific research methods, scientific research equipment, and scientific research methods. At the same time, he has also witnessed the development of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
