US President Trump and President-elect Joe Biden expressed their welcome to the positive clinical trial results of the COVID-19 vaccine candidate being developed by US pharmaceutical company Modena.
President Trump post on his Twitter account after Modena's announcement, saying, "Another vaccine has just been released," and "this time by Modena, it's 95% effective."
"I hope all of the great historians will remember that all these great discoveries that will end the Chinese epidemic have occurred during my tenure."
Biden-elect also tweeted welcoming progress in vaccine development.
"Today's second vaccine news is another reason to feel hope," Biden said in a tweet.
"We still have months left," he said. "By then, Americans must continue to practice social distancing and wearing masks to control the virus."
Biden made COVID-19 control a top priority for the next administration, and emphasized that the U.S. is facing a dark winter and asked to maintain basic health precautions such as wearing a mask.
