"I went to Beijing once when I was 18, and I made a secret decision to come to the mainland to develop in the future." In mid-November, at the painting and calligraphy studio of "Zhiyuzhai" in Chengdu Tianfu New District, Xiao Wanrong was painting a painting of lotus.

The gentle Taiwanese girl in front of me was an interpreter in Kaohsiung five years ago, and is now a famous calligrapher and painter in Chengdu.

Xiao Wanrong is 31 years old, from Kaohsiung, Taiwan. He has studied traditional painting and calligraphy since childhood.

Her fate with Sichuan began in 2010. She met a Sichuan calligrapher and painter during cross-strait cultural exchanges in Kaohsiung and became her disciple.

In 2016, Xiao Wanrong decided to turn his hobby of painting and calligraphy into a career, and bought a one-way ticket to Chengdu.

Xiao Wanrong visited Yingfo Rock in Lulai Mountain, Shandong.

"Before coming to Chengdu, what I thought was to look at the inscriptions, ruins, museums, and art galleries in the mainland, because you can't see them in Taiwan." In the two years since she first came to Chengdu, she went to many places in the mainland to find inscriptions. Especially Xi'an Forest of Steles and Shandong Taishan.

What impressed her most was the visit to Yingfoyan in Lulai Mountain, Shandong.

"Climbing up along the barren mountain with no road, my skin was cut by the branches, and I couldn't take care of it." Xiao Wanrong recalled the moment he saw the Beiqi Cliff Carved on the top of the rock, "I feel that everything is worth it. Climbing such a long mountain road It's worth it. It's worth it to come to the mainland from Taiwan."

After arriving in Chengdu, Xiao Wanrong initially arranged his studio on the bank of Huanhua Creek, next to Du Fu Thatched Cottage.

In her opinion, Chengdu is full of poetry, and Du Fu's Thatched Cottage with the Thousand Poem Monument is even more poetic.

"Chengdu's calligraphers and painters especially like poetry, and the city atmosphere is also very tolerant. I have absorbed a lot of energy here."

Xiao Wanrong looked for the stele of the Song Gaoling Temple in Zhongyue, Dengfeng, Henan.

On weekdays, Xiao Wanrong likes to copy the scriptures quietly, has a deep knowledge of Hongti calligraphy, and is also good at painting flowers and birds.

Under the guidance of her friends in Chengdu, painting and calligraphy, she began to contribute articles to exhibitions in various parts of the mainland, which gradually became famous.

"I agree with the ancient people's creative concept of'learning from nature', paying attention to sketching from life and paying attention to inheritance." Xiao Wanrong said that she is a "practical school". She depends on the books that the ancients have read, walked by the ancients, and saw inscriptions Really, feel the cultural context firsthand, "These can only be achieved in the mainland."

Sichuan is the hometown of Zhang Daqian. Many Taiwanese calligraphers and painters have come to Sichuan for exchanges, but there are very few who directly settled in Chengdu like Xiao Wanrong.

In response, Xiao Wanrong told reporters that there are also friends in the painting and calligraphy circles in Taiwan who want to settle in the mainland, "I encourage them to come. The painting and calligraphy circles in the mainland emphasize innovation and can broaden their horizons."

Now, Xiao Wanrong has been in Chengdu for 5 years and has already adapted to life here.

Most of the time, she stayed in the studio to create calligraphy and painting, occasionally teaching calligraphy and calligraphy to local children, or went to other places to participate in calligraphy and painting exhibitions and cultural exchange activities.

In Chengdu, this Taiwanese girl achieved a magnificent "turn around" and gained career and friendship.
