November 14, 2020 Shipwreck and aiding and abetting illegal immigration.
These are currently the crime hypotheses of the Agrigento Prosecutor's Office which opened a file on the shipwreck, last Wednesday, in Libyan waters, about 30 miles north of the coasts of Sabratha.
6 migrants lost their lives, including 6-month-old little Youssef.
The NGO Open Arms ship rescued them in the open sea.
Rescued by the Open Arms, the little one was transferred to the island with a Coast Guard patrol boat.
But Youssef didn't make it.
This morning the small white coffin arrived in Lampedusa and will be buried in the island cemetery.
The investigations are currently being carried out on a 360-degree front, also taking into account the problems relating to international jurisdiction.
The investigation is in fact also aimed at ascertaining any delays in rescues, after the alarm launched by the Open Arms which intervened in Libyan waters.
The mother is now in the first reception center on the island.
The bodies of the other five victims were brought from the Open Arms to Trapani, where all the people rescued on a quarantine ship were transferred.
