Umeå municipality has been working at full speed since last week's floods.

Clearing is now underway, including along Tvärån and Djupbäcken, before new rains await in the county.

But there are problems that are difficult to fix in the short term.

- There are narrow sectors in the pipeline networks and also the open systems that cause it to flood in certain areas, says Robert Hansson, VA manager at Vakin.

Long-term work is also underway to review how stormwater will be handled in the future.

When streets are rebuilt, pipes are replaced and oversized to cope with future climate change.

The aim is to limit the risk of new damage in the event of floods.

At the same time, Umeå will grow.

By 2050, the goal is to have twice as many inhabitants, and as the city becomes denser, the load on the current water systems will be significantly higher.
