It is the most serious clash between India and Pakistan since the start of the year.
Many soldiers and civilians were killed, Friday, November 13, in Kashmir after exchanges of fire between sworn enemies.
Pakistan claims to have lost only one soldier when the Indian army claims to have shot down ten.
On the Indian side, five soldiers have officially died.
Several civilians were also killed or injured on both sides.
Violation of the ceasefire
?
It is difficult, as is often the case along this contested border, to know what set off the powder.
According to the Indian military, the clash began after it spotted suspicious enemy movements.
Pakistan would then have "
initiated a violation of the ceasefire in several sectors
".
Indian forces then responded, targeting ammunition depots or bunkers.
In several videos, Pakistani military structures can be seen on fire after Indian missile fire.
Indian security forces had already killed three terrorists last week after an infiltration attempt.
More than 4,000 ceasefire violations took place in 2020, according to the Indian military.
