The World Health Organization and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a joint report on the 12th that in 2019, there were close to 870,000 measles cases worldwide, the highest level in 23 years, with more than 207,000 deaths.

The report believes that the main reason for the increase in deaths is that children failed to complete two doses of measles vaccination on time.

Measles is one of the most infectious diseases known. It is more contagious than COVID-19, Ebola, tuberculosis and influenza.

Health officials believe that the record number of measles cases worldwide is due to a significant reduction in vaccination.

WHO estimates that to prevent an outbreak of measles, about 95% of the population must be immunized, and the coverage rate for two doses of vaccine is now only between 70% and 85%.
