33 people are cared for on Friday for covid-19 at the county's two hospitals, and these are all care places the region has for covid patients.

- According to calculations, even more care places may be needed in the covid wards during the weekend.

That is why we are now strengthening with extra staff and care places at both hospitals.

Other patient groups may need to move to Ljungby Hospital to free up care places in the covid wards located in Växjö, says Maria Wiltz, hospital manager in a press release.

A third covid department was opened on Friday at the central hospital in Växjö.

Planned operations are postponed

The strengthening situation in healthcare is the second level of preparedness out of a total of three.

An increase from the previous staff situation is made "when the health care's total resources are still sufficient, but then a reprioritisation of work and resources will be necessary", writes the Kronoberg region.

The decision means, among other things, that planned operations that are not urgent will be postponed, so that personnel can be released.
