An incident at the dairy caused milk to start leaking from several valves.

But when the company emptied its safety tank, where around 30,000 liters of milk were collected, there was a problem - at the treatment plant.

Knocked out the bio step

The plant's so - called biostage, which purifies Kalmar's wastewater from nitrogen, was eliminated.

Arla was therefore urged to stop emptying.

Only after 24 hours could the purification be resumed, writes Barometern.

Stricter routines

Arla in Kalmar is now being investigated for environmental crimes.

- It was a very unfortunate circumstance that should not really happen. We have tightened the routines we have so that it is not repeated. The rules must be followed, says Erik Bratthall, press manager at Arla, to Barometern
