Members of the Korea-Japan Congressional Federation visiting Japan met Japanese Prime Minister Suga on the afternoon of the 13th.

In a 15-minute interview, lawmakers suggested to Prime Minister Suga to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the two countries ahead of the Tokyo Olympics next year.

It is known that there has been no discussion on sensitive issues such as compulsory mobilization compensation and export regulations.

However, it is not helpful to both countries to continue to hold on to the current conflict issues, so we are trying to create an atmosphere of resolution by expanding exchanges.

[Kim Jin-pyo / Democratic Party Member (Chairman of the Republic of Korea): When the leaders of both countries said that they would eagerly create the conditions and environment to settle difficult issues, (Prime Minister Suga) asked for that effort.]

[Nukaga/Japan Liberal Democratic Party Member (Japan side) Chairman): I think that creating an environment so that governments can approach and agree with each other is a big role of parliamentary diplomacy.]

Prime Minister Suga, who took office in September, met with National Intelligence Service Chief Park Ji-won three days ago, and today we congress members. We are expanding our contact with Korea, including meetings.

Together with the Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon, stressing the necessity of improving Korea-Japan relations, he suggested a big discussion between the two leaders as a solution.

Japan still adheres to the position that Korea must first untie the knot on pending issues such as compulsory mobilization and compensation, but there is a movement in both Korea and Japan to seek clues for a settlement.
