A major police operation is underway on Friday evening at one of the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare's (Sis) facilities in Kalix.

A hole has been found in a fence and the police suspect that unauthorized persons may have entered the area.

According to information to SVT, people with weapon-like objects must have moved outside the facility earlier today.

In August, two people convicted of murder escaped from a youth home outside Lund and in July, one person was released during a leave of absence in Kungsbacka.

Sis has initiated security work initiated by the Director General Elisabet Åbjörnsson Hollmark, who took over just over a year ago and then came most recently from the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.

The government has contributed SEK 110 million to Sis' security work.

Want to see juvenile prisons

But that is not enough, says Johan Forssell (M).

Responsible politicians need to rethink and Forssell calls for a shift in how seriously criminal minors are handled by society.

- A completely different attitude is needed and I question whether these people should be in this type of youth housing at all.

It is not a punishment, says Forssell.

- I would like to see pure juvenile prisons, he continues.

A social issue

SVT Nyheter has sought the Minister of the Interior, who referred on to the Minister of Social Affairs.

The issue of Sis-hem is under the Ministry of Social Affairs.

- It says a lot about the attitude, that these residents are under the Ministry of Social Affairs.

In times when gang crime is growing and people who do not withdraw to use lethal force, they are convicted of murder many, get younger then they must be treated as the serious criminals they actually are, says Forssell (M).

Johan Forssell wants to be clear that he is not critical of the employees at Sis but wants to emphasize that they do the best they can.

- I have talked to many who work there and they are terrified.

Security must be improved.

SVT Nyheter has sought Minister of the Interior Mikael Damberg (S) who refers to Minister of Social Affairs Lena Hallengren (S).

SVT Nyheter has also sought the Minister of Social Affairs, who has declined to comment.
