In Côte d'Ivoire, according to La Lettre du Continent, President Alassane Ouattara has just signed the delivery of a diplomatic passport to Laurent Gbagbo.

This would open, according to our colleagues, the way for his return to the country.

Laurent Gbagbo's entourage says he is not aware of such a decision.

But a scenario of handing over a passport to Laurent Gbagbo does exist within the authorities.

A few days before the presidential election of October 31, Alassane Ouattara had told RFI and France 24 that he was putting no obstacle in handing over his passport to

Laurent Gbagbo

.

“

The passport is being issued to my knowledge,

even declared Alassane Ouattara.

It is not a problem.

 "

Two weeks later, a good source within power goes further, and describes the scenario which, she says, is currently being considered: Laurent Gbagbo explains this source, would be given a diplomatic passport.

The procedures could be launched very soon on the occasion of the accreditation of emissaries of Ivorian power.

Our interlocutor, however, refuses to comment on the time that will be necessary for the process to come to an end.

He also specifies: “

The establishment of a passport does not mean that Laurent Gbagbo will be able to return immediately to Côte d'Ivoire.

 "

Laurent Gbagbo is still affected, in fact, by

the so-called “robbery” affair

of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) and this aspect of things will require political treatment.
