The Qatari Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, held talks yesterday, Thursday, with the Libyan Minister of Defense, Salah al-Din Ali Al-Nimroush, in the Qatari capital (Doha), and the defense ministries of Qatar and Libya also signed a cooperation agreement in the field of training and capacity building.

The Qatar News Agency reported that Sheikh Muhammad and Nimroush discussed the cooperation relations between the two countries, and the latest developments in the Libyan situation. The Qatari Foreign Minister stressed Doha’s support for the sovereignty of Libya.


The Qatari minister expressed his country's wishes that the ceasefire concluded in all Libyan lands would be a "step forward in the path of a comprehensive political solution that preserves the unity of the Libyan territories, respects the rights of the brotherly Libyan people, and establishes a state of law and civil institutions."

The joint military committee between the Government of National Accord and the forces of retired Major General Khalifa Haftar announced this month a ceasefire agreement, as part of the discussions that are taking place in the Swiss city of Geneva under the auspices of the United Nations.

In a related context, the Qatari Ministry of Defense stated on its Twitter account that yesterday, Thursday, a cooperation agreement in the field of training and capacity building was signed between the Ministry of Defense in Qatar and the Ministry of Defense of the Government of National Accord in Libya.

This came during a meeting between Khaled Al-Attiyah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense for Defense Affairs in Qatar, and the Libyan Minister of Defense, Salah Al-Din Al-Nimroush.

In early November, Qatar and Libya signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation in the security field.
