When the job at the restaurant disappeared in March, Fredrik Apollo Asplund got a random job at Karolinska Hospital in Huddinge.

An intensive work period followed in the spring.

- We who worked came from different industries and had previously worked as waiters, flight attendants, circus workers or foremen.

We were recruited to assist the care staff with tasks they did not have time for, such as cleaning, transporting beds and making beds, he says.

Emergency hospital ready to scale up again

During the summer, when the number of enrolled covid patients decreased, the need for emergency workers became less.

Some of those who worked remained in the hospitals but with new tasks.

- Of those who rushed in to help during the spring's work with covi-19, about 80 people are still at Karolinska.

At present, Karolinska believes that recruitment or loans from other care providers are not necessary without us being able to cope with internal transitions, says Catarina Thepper, communicator at Karolinska's press service.

Other emergency hospitals are also looking at the autumn staffing to see how the hospital staff can be relieved.

- When it comes to mobilization, we are reviewing needs and working continuously with recruitment, says Liza Greiz, communicator at Södersjukhuset
