The reporter learned on the 12th that in 10 years, a total of 123 children with congenital diseases underwent charitable operations with funding from all walks of life through the project, and used more than 4.33 million yuan in donations.
In 2011, in order to rescue children with congenital diseases from poor families in the old area of Zunyi and improve the level of children's medical services in sister hospitals, Shanghai Children’s Hospital, Zunyi Maternity and Child Health Hospital and Shanghai Children’s Health Foundation jointly launched the "Thousand Miles of Medical Treatment to Zunyi" "Large-scale medical aid public welfare project.
So far, more than 500 children in 14 counties (districts and cities) in Zunyi City have received free clinic screening, of which 116 children with congenital heart disease, 2 children with hypospadias and 4 children with strabismus are in Shanghai Children’s Health Received free surgery with funding from the foundation.
Over the past ten years, "Sending a Thousand Miles to Zunyi" has become a red "medical belt" connecting Shanghai and Zunyi, two cities with a glorious revolutionary history.
It is understood that it is a traditional project that experts from the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Cardiology, Neonatology, and Child Health Care of Shanghai Children’s Hospital are conducting free consultations in the Xinpu District of Zunyi Maternal and Child Health Hospital and Chishui Maternal and Child Health Hospital.
The 4-year-old Xiaotao (pseudonym) was accompanied by his father to the expert Zhang Rufang. Xiaotao's father was pleasantly surprised to find that this "Shanghai expert" was Dr. Zhang who performed caring operations on Xiaotao in Shanghai two years ago.
After a detailed examination of Xiaotao, the expert informed that the child is recovering well and he is ready to come to Shanghai for the second operation.
Xiao Tao’s father told reporters: “I didn’t expect to meet Dr. Zhang, who performed the operation on us before, and hope to join this charity project again. I’m so lucky.”
In the tenth season of the event, Shanghai experts conducted careful screening of more than 70 children with congenital heart disease.
After the examination, 10 children who are eligible for surgery will be funded and come to Shanghai to receive free surgery.
