The Dubai Health Authority stated that it had implemented a preventive plan to protect the pharmacist staff, the first line of defense, from “Covid-19” infection, as the number of injuries among them did not exceed 20%, and they all recovered.

The Director of the Department of Pharmacy and Drug Services at the Dubai Health Authority, Dr. Ali Al-Sayed, said, "The authority includes 400 pharmacists who contributed to providing medicine to patients during the pandemic around the clock."

He added to "Emirates Today" that "the authority was keen to ensure the smooth flow of drug management operations in all service-providing centers, and to face the emergency that imposed itself, the most prominent of which was the infection of about 20% of the pharmaceutical staff with the Corona virus."

He explained that the authority’s plan included rotating employees between its pharmacies to ensure the smooth flow of drug management operations, and the daily shifts system was modified to ensure social distancing and the provision of necessary pharmaceutical care services, in addition to covering all isolation and quarantine centers.

He continued: "The preventive plan, which was implemented by the authority, included classifying employees to determine the category that increases the likelihood of infection, and distributing their members to places where the probability of transmission of infection to the minimum level, and permits were given to pregnant employees."

He stated that the authority has worked to increase the working hours of the pharmacist staff and distribute them to all hospitals and centers, to ensure the continuity of providing service over the 24 hours, without any shortening or slowdown that may in turn affect the health services system.

He stated that the authority, since the beginning of the pandemic, initiated a plan to manage the drug stock, with the aim of increasing its rate in the authority’s stores (from an average of two months - four months, to an average of six - nine months), and all companies and agents supplying drugs in the authority were addressed, to ensure the existence of Strategic stocks are always in their warehouses in an amount equivalent to the authority’s consumption for at least six months.
