November 12, 2020 - US President-elect Joe Biden has chosen a veteran of politics, Ron Klain, as the next White House chief of staff.

This was announced by his team.

Klain worked with Biden in the 1980s in the Senate and then in the White House, when the latter was vice president.

A Washington regular, Klain also worked with Barack Obama in the White House and served as chief of staff to Vice President Al Gore.

He was played by actor Kevin Spacey in the film Recount, about the 2000 presidential election.

The White House chief of staff is a political appointment that does not require confirmation from the Senate. Biden praised Klain in a note distributed by his team for the transition. "Her varied and profound experience and the ability to work with people from across the political spectrum are precisely what I need in a White House chief of staff to address this moment of crisis and return to unite the country." Klain said he was "honored" by the confidence of the elected president. "I'm looking forward to helping him and the vice president-elect bring together a talented and diverse team to work in the White House, promoting their ambitious change agenda and trying to heal the divisions in our country," he said.
