According to statistics issued by the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, the rate of registration of the violation against heavy vehicles due to non-compliance with technical standards and tire safety conditions has reached about 2000 violations annually, over the past four years, at a time when the number of heavy vehicles registered in Dubai is approximately 45 thousand vehicles.

The Director of the Licensing Activities Supervision Department at the Authority, Muhammad Walid Nabhan, told Emirates Today that tire safety is a fundamental factor in vehicle safety, especially for heavy vehicles whose malfunctions or deviations cause dangerous consequences for the safety and health of road users, due to their load. And its large size, which, in the event of non-compliance with safety terms and standards, may lead to fatal accidents.

He referred to the cooperation between the Heavy Vehicles Control Department at the Licensing Agency and the Dubai Police Patrols in carrying out periodic and sudden field campaigns, pointing out that the inspection teams at the authority are competent to check technical specifications in vehicles and tires, which entitles it to seize the vehicle until its conditions are modified.

He added that the driver is given a time limit to deliver the cargo if he was transporting goods when he was stopped and violated, while he is required to go immediately to the reservation site and stop his vehicle if he was not loaded.

In response to a question about the applicable conditions that determine the amount of load, tire type and size in heavy vehicles, Nabhan stated that this is determined according to the manufacturing specifications of each vehicle, its size, and the size of the spindle.

Nabhan pointed to the importance of the vehicle safety system, which was launched by the authority to control trucks and heavy vehicles registered in the system, and its contribution to reducing the number of truck accidents registered in the system to zero, as it can instantly track the movement of heavy vehicles and monitor the behavior of their drivers by linking the movement and data of vehicles to the system through Satellite tracking systems and cellular communications network, adding that the system’s application and utilization are integrated with field monitoring and periodic technical checks that are carried out to detect defects, wear and breakdowns, in order to ensure the highest level of traffic safety conditions.

Tire defect

The Director of the Licensing Activities Supervision Department at the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, Mohammed Walid Nabhan, stated that some tire failure and defect problems prevent the vehicle from successfully passing the technical examination, and include expired tires, which are tires that are more than five years old from the date of manufacture, as well as worn tires Eloquently, as well as tires that have parts, and tires that are not suitable for use on roads and public streets.
