The college was jointly established by Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University and Suzhou Industrial Park, aiming to coordinate the efforts of the government, industry and society to help Suzhou build a world-class biomedical industry landmark.
Xipu Huihu School of Pharmacy will set up three departments: Pharmaceutical Science, Pharmacy, and Biotechnology Pharmaceuticals, with a total of 9 majors including medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical analysis, and biotechnology medicine.
Xipu Huihu School of Pharmacy plans to enroll the first students in 2021, covering the three academic stages of undergraduate, master and doctoral degrees, and increase the enrollment plan year by year. By 2026, it plans to achieve a total of more than 2,000 students.
In addition to closely integrating the development needs of the biomedical industry in personnel training, Xipu Huihu School of Pharmacy also pays attention to responding to the research and development demands of the Suzhou biomedical industry in scientific research.
Combining its own scientific research accumulation and interdisciplinary advantages, Xipu Huihu School of Pharmacy plans to carry out basic research in three major directions: new therapeutic drugs and methods, artificial intelligence in the field of medicine, and clinical pharmacy, including antibody and nucleic acid drugs, gene and cell therapy And other content.
At the inauguration ceremony, Xipu Huihu School of Pharmacy released a list of strategic partners, including Hengrui Pharmaceuticals, Cinda Biologicals, Junshi Pharmaceuticals, Yasheng Pharmaceuticals, CStone Pharmaceuticals, Borui Biologicals and other well-known pharmaceutical companies.
According to Ding Yimin, the vice president of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, founded by Xi’an Jiaotong University and the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom, has grown into a comprehensive university with a relatively complete discipline structure and the largest domestic and foreign university after nearly 15 years of development and accumulation. Cooperative universities can provide a strong foundation for interdisciplinary cooperation, a high-level expert community and a collaborative innovation system for Xipu Huihu School of Pharmacy.
Biomedicine is one of the most growing emerging strategic industries in the world today.
Suzhou proposed to build biomedicine as the "No. 1 industry", and strive to gather more than 10,000 enterprises and the scale of the industry to break one trillion yuan within ten years.
As a highland for the development of the biopharmaceutical industry in Suzhou, Suzhou Industrial Park has gathered more than 1,400 related companies and achieved an output value of 90 billion yuan in 2019.
However, industry insiders analyzed that compared to Boston, which is known as the "World Medicine Valley", Suzhou still has two shortcomings: one is that there are few universities and professionals; the other is that there are few hospitals and clinical research is difficult.
