According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, such a decision will allow monitoring the parties' compliance with the cessation of hostilities and "will form a solid basis for resolving the long-standing conflict."

The joint center will be located on the territory of Azerbaijan, collect, summarize and check information on the observance of the ceasefire regime, RIA Novosti writes.

"The presence of Russian peacekeepers will ensure stability in the crisis region, stop the flows of refugees, and will facilitate their return to their places of residence," Shoigu said.

Earlier, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that Russia and Turkey will interact on Nagorno-Karabakh issues through the monitoring center on the territory of Azerbaijan.
