Construction has been underway on the section between Kanazawa and Tsuruga on the Hokuriku Shinkansen with the aim of opening in the spring of 2023.

However, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism held a project team of the ruling party on the 11th due to cracks in the ground inside the tunnel on the prefectural border between Ishikawa and Fukui and poor bids for viaduct construction. At the meeting, he reported that the opening of the business would be delayed by one and a half years.



In addition, due to the cost of safety measures for tunnel construction, the total project cost is expected to increase by about 288 billion yen from the initial estimate of 1.4 trillion yen.

For this reason, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism will set up a verification committee consisting of civil engineering experts to consider whether it is possible to shorten the construction period, and will reiterate the prospect of opening time and project cost by the middle of next month.
