In Naples, the management of the Covid-19 pandemic is on the brink of a precipice.
The situation is particularly frightening at Cotugno Hospital, which specializes in infectious diseases.

After having withstood the second wave much better than other European countries, Italy now appears to be submerged.
In recent days, the huge parking lot of the Neapolitan Cotugno Hospital has been filled with ambulances and parked cars.
Emergencies are overloaded.
There are no more beds available in the units dedicated to Covid-19 and not enough doctors.
So patients who require immediate care are taken care of by nurses, some simply protected by a surgical mask.

Over a million cases
While awaiting further decisions from the government, Naples remains the most glaring mirror of a situation that seems to be getting out of control across the country.
According to figures released on Wednesday by the Ministry of Health, Italy has exceeded one million cases since the start of the epidemic.
The first country in Europe to be hit by the novel coronavirus pandemic last spring, the Peninsula recorded 32,961 new cases and 623 deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the total since February to 1,028,424 cases and 42,953 deaths.
According to an AFP count, With a little over 60 million inhabitants, Italy is the tenth country to cross the threshold of one million infected people, after the United States, India, Brazil , Russia, France, Spain, Argentina.
