Emmanuel Macron receives Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurtz at the Elysee Palace on Tuesday to address the subject of terrorism in Europe, after the attacks that have hit the two countries in recent weeks.

Angela Merkel, Charles Michels and Ursula Von der Leyen will join them by videoconference later today.

After the attacks of recent weeks, France and Austria are more united than ever.

The two countries want to take a firm line against terrorism and take the rest of Europe in their wake.

Emmanuel Macron will discuss this alliance on Tuesday with Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurtz, during a mini-summit at the Elysee Palace.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Belgian President of the European Council Charles Michels and President of the European Commission Ursula Von der Leyen will join them by video conference later today.

New text on the integration of immigrants

Several subjects will be on the table of this mini-summit, in particular intelligence, judicial cooperation or the fight against online hatred.

Some cases have already almost been completed, others have barely been launched.

At the end of the week, another text pushed by France and Austria should be proposed to the Union's interior ministers, this time on the integration of immigrants.

This specifies in particular that they must share European values and learn the language of the country where they live.

“We cannot be satisfied with integration at a discount,” they say in Paris.

By relying on his Austrian partner, Emmanuel Macron wants to try to materialize these subjects with a view to the French presidency of the European Union, which will take place in the first half of 2022, in the midst of the presidential campaign.
