The jurors of the Assize Court of Saint-Brieuc heard "the despair" of the accused.

Monday evening, a 60-year-old man was sentenced to five years in prison, three of which were suspended for the murder of his mother, reports Ouest-France.

The man having already spent three months in pre-trial detention and two years under an electronic bracelet, he was not imprisoned after the verdict.

The facts took place in 2017 in Plouha, in the Côtes d'Armor, under the roof of the son of the deceased.

The nonagenarian had been living with her son for over ten years.

At the end of it, the latter had threatened his mother to kill herself, before turning the gun on his mother and firing once.

He himself had called the gendarmerie.

The accused visibly experienced very badly the cohabitation with his mother, for which he had never given his consent.

His mother had invited to her son's house after the sale of her house but had never left.

According to the lawyer for the accused, interviewed by Ouest-France, the mother was very demanding with her son and prevented him from living normally.

Facing the Assize Court, the man appeared alone.

No one had brought a civil action.
