After the much-publicized transformation of the mural "Ecce Homo", which later became "Apjesus" and the dubious color scheme of a statue now known as "Rosenkindade Sankt Göran" or "Tintin St: George" in English, another work has taken place on the stage of deteriorating figures.

It is about a stone figure on an early 20th century building in the city of Palencia in northwestern Spain, which is a local headquarters for the bank Unicaja.

Surrealistic nightmare

The failed transformation was first noticed on Saturday when the artist Antonio Guzman Capel posted a picture of what he himself described as a "mistake" in his social media.

What previously depicted a smiling girl now looks like something out of a surreal nightmare.

British The Guardian mentions that the statue has a certain resemblance to US President Donald Trump, or the sand people from the Star Wars movies.

"It looks like the face of a cartoon character," wrote Guzman Capel himself.

It is unclear who is behind it

Who caused the transformation is unclear.

The figure sits high up on the building and is difficult to detect if you do not know what you are looking for.

It probably happened during a facade renovation at some unknown time, writes the local newspaper El norte de Castilla.

The affected building is located on the city's main street and the criticism and ridicule on social media has not been long in coming.

"The Spaniards have done it again" and "Worse than Ecche Homo" are some of the headlines on Twitter.
