Last week, the United Kingdom introduced an immediate entry ban for Danes after a mutated coronavirus from Danish mink farms was transmitted from minks to humans.

But that Sweden would introduce a similar ban is thus not something that the Public Health Agency advocates.

In an email to SVT, the authority writes via its press communicator Henrik Josephson:

“Sweden already has many measures in place to counteract the spread of covid-19 in general, for example, stricter general councils in Skåne and several other regions apply.

Denmark has also taken extensive measures against infection from mink and therefore the Swedish Public Health Agency sees no need for further measures from the Swedish side. ”

Working together

According to the Swedish Public Health Agency, they follow developments closely and work together with the Swedish Board of Agriculture and the Swedish Veterinary Institute to reduce the risks of infection between mink and humans.

When asked whether the Swedish Public Health Agency will recommend closing the border with Denmark, the answer is clear: "No."

Follows the process

Whether the border with Denmark will be closed or not is ultimately a matter for the government to decide.

SVT has sought Interior Minister Mikael Damberg for a comment.

His press secretary Mirjam Kontio announces the following: "The government is following the situation closely and is prepared to take the necessary measures".
