The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested a member of the Castellers de Barcelona for alleged sexual abuse of eight minors of the association, who expelled him in a precautionary manner as soon as he learned of the facts.

The man was arrested on Monday and has been released with precautionary measures after going to court this Tuesday, the Catalan police explained to Europa Press.

The investigation began in February, after the minors filed a complaint about the events, which was also made known to the Prosecutor's Office by the unit that treated them at the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in Barcelona.

In a statement, Castellers de Barcelona reported that after detecting "signs of possible inappropriate behavior and abuse" it contacted specialists in this area so that they could attend to minor and adult victims.

Specifically, they contacted the functional unit for abuse of minors at the Sant Joan de Deú Hospital in Barcelona and referred them to possible cases, while to attend to people of legal age they contacted the Associació d'Assistència a Dones Agredides Sexualment ( AADAS).

The Castellers de Barcelona made themselves available to the Mossos d'Esquadra and Justice, the group has highlighted.

The entity carried out an "accompaniment of all those affected", and has contacted the Vicki Bernadet Foundation to receive advice on what actions they should take.

In addition, it is working to protect children with a specific protocol for the world of 'castells', so that the technicians who are with them receive training in prevention and so that "they are required to have the certificate of crimes of a sexual nature in negative".
