Great need for winter clothes for children: "We see that it is increasing"

The parish in Nyköping notices an increase in calls from financially vulnerable families.

One explanation may be that the corona pandemic brought with it increased unemployment among those who had a tough time even before.

- Many people do not have money for Christmas presents and Christmas food, says Sarah Blomberg, sociologist at Nyköping parish.

Compared with the financial support that the church in Nyköping distributes in the form of gift cards in mid-December, the parish has now brought forward the clothing collection and those in need can already now pick up a set of children's clothes at Mariagården in Brandkärr.

Just to leave outside the door

There, even those who want to donate clothes can hand them in in a corona-safe way.

- The only requirement we have is that the clothes must be whole and clean, then just park here outside the door, says Sarah Blomberg.
