General de Gaulle died November 9, 1970. To pay homage to him just 50 years after his death, his goddaughter Nicole tells the microphone of Europe 1 of the help and generosity he has shown her.

Without family ties, Nicole found herself linked to the de Gaulle family throughout her life.

TESTIMONY

Republican sponsorship is a use that has been lost.

It was in vogue after the war, particularly aimed at supporting the birth rate.

De Gaulle himself had lent himself to this.

In 1947, Nicole's father, a soldier in Moselle, wrote to the general asking him to be his daughter's godfather.

He accepts, but it is Yvonne de Gaulle who responds to the family in a handwritten letter.

Nicole has found herself linked to the illustrious family throughout her life.

On the 50th anniversary of the general's death, she paid tribute to him at the microphone of Europe 1.

"Meeting him, it did something to me"

The first time Nicole meets the General, she is 14 years old.

She is invited with her mother to a ceremony in Forbach.

“At the beginning, it was not planned that we are presented. Finally, a gentleman, probably a guard, took me to de Gaulle's. Meeting him, it did something to me. says: 'Nicole, I am delighted to meet you' ", says the general's goddaughter, now 73 years old.

From a distance, de Gaulle follows all his youth.

"I'll never forget him. Every year we had a box of fruit. He helped us, sent money to my mom."

He continues to support her as an adult, for example sending money to buy wedding rings during her wedding.

Yvonne de Gaulle, for her part, sent her clothes bearing the Lorraine cross for her children.

The autographed portrait of Grand Charles, sent for his wedding and remained for a long time in the cellar of the house, is now in the bedroom of his granddaughter, who makes a point of honor to carry this memory.
