Investigation: The Civil Guard investigates the discovery of bones in the place where they buried the Alcàsser girls
The investigation into the murder of the
Alcàsser girls
takes a new turn 28 years later due to the DNA remains found in some bones found near the grave where
Míriam
,
Toñi
and
Desireé
were buried in the place of La Romana, in Tous (Valencia) in 1993.
The bones, four small in size and that could correspond to phalanges of a hand, were found by a young man from Piles (Castellón) who visited the area with his girlfriend at the end of June 2019 after watching the documentary broadcast by
Netflix
about the murders that shocked Spanish society in the early 1990s. The couple took photos and sent them to the coroner
Francisco Etxeberria
, who advised him to hand them over to the authorities after observing that they could be human.
The Civil Guard then began an investigation that has concluded with a report from the National Institute of Toxicology and Forensic Sciences in Barcelona that certifies that the bones, according to the newspaper
Las Provincias
, belong to
Míriam
, one of the murdered girls.
The finding was analyzed by the criminalistics laboratory of the Valencia Command and the Valencia Institute of Legal Medicine confirmed that it was human remains, although the poor condition required a more exhaustive analysis that was carried out in Barcelona.
In the autopsies carried out in '93, it was found that Toñi had complete hands, for which DNA traces were collected from Míriam's father, Fernando García, and from Desireé's mother, Rosa Folch.
The result has provided the certainty that it is
Míriam's skeletal remains
, as reflected in the report sent to the Court of Instruction number 6 of Alzira (Valencia) that investigated the events, as well as the family.
The appearance of these bones again calls into question the way in which the corpses were raised on January 27, 1993, since it is not the first time that remains have appeared that were not collected by researchers.
In 2017,
a tooth
was found
, but the deterioration did not allow it to be compared with the girls' DNA.

After this new discovery, it will be the court who will decide whether to make the decision to reopen the investigation of a case that, almost thirty years later, continues to arouse a great media stir.
Ricart, the only one convicted
For these murders, only
Miguel Ricart
has been convicted
, who spent 21 years in prison for the kidnapping, rape and murder of the three minors.
Ricart was sentenced to 170 years in prison but was released in 2013 after the Parot doctrine was deactivated.
Since then his track is lost.
The other material perpetrator of the crime could never be tried:
Antonio Angles
fled and is missing.
His last clue is lost in the 'City of Plymouth', the ship in which in 1993 he fled to Ireland as a stowaway.
Kenneth Farquharsib Stevens, the ship's captain, detailed in an interview on LaSexta that when the police boarded the ship on March 24, 1993, the fugitive was no longer inside.
First he was put in a "room", then in an empty cabin locked with a key and with people "nearby watching", but he escaped in an inflatable boat that had to drop into the sea from seven meters high.
A French plane located the stowaway in the boat, after a radio message, they put him back on board and put him back in the same cabin, where they "barred" windows and door with boards.
"It was impossible for him to open the door from the inside," noted the captain.
However, when the police arrived after docking in Dublin, they were gone.
"Someone had to let him out and have repositioned the wood. He could not escape from that cabin without help," said the captain.
