Earlier this week, residents of Montpezat-de-Quercy, in the north of Tarn-et-Garonne discovered that the statue of the Virgin, located in a stone alcove in front of the village collegiate church, had been the victim of degradations.

She had been the target of stones thrown and she had been beheaded.

The head having been found broken on the ground, the voluntary act was beyond doubt.

On Friday, the Caussade gendarmes arrested two young people of 17 and 18 years old suspected of having committed this act of vandalism, indicates France Bleu Occitanie.

The latter, originally from the town, would have recognized the facts.

No religious connotation

For the services of the public prosecutor of Montauban, behind this shocking act, there would be no religious connotation, but just the act of idle young people who would have done this to "pass the time", reports the radio.

Placed in police custody, the two young people will later be summoned to court to answer for their acts.
