In the midst of China's confrontation with the United States, it was found to be the second largest importer of US poultry products.

Hong Kong's South China Morning Post (SCMP) said that China has become the second largest importer of US poultry products after Mexico, with a total of 283,000 tons of US poultry products and nearly $420 million in imports from February to August this year. Reported.

Chicken feet accounted for the largest amount of imported items.

Almost 119,000 tons, more than 260 million dollars of chicken feet were imported from the United States.

Earlier, in response to the outbreak of avian influenza in the United States in 2015, China banned the import of all poultry and related products from the U.S., and lifted the import ban in February this year, five years after the agreement on the first phase of trade between the United States and China.

China is required to purchase US$200 billion worth of US goods, including agricultural products, for an additional two years under the agreement on the first phase of US-China trade.

At the China International Import Fair (CIIE) that opened in Shanghai on the 5th, Jim Summer, the head of the US Poultry and Egg Export Council, said, "After a five-year import ban, exports of our products to China have overtaken Mexico for just a few months this year." If so, China will surpass Mexico and become our largest export destination.”

"One of the reasons why the Chinese market is so important to us is because Chinese consumers love our'jumbo chicken feet'," said Mr. Summer.
