US presidential candidate Joe Biden has pledged to unite American society.

The politician, who announced his victory in the presidential election the day before, said this during a speech in Delaware, where he was first elected as a senator.

“I promise to be a president who seeks not to divide, but to unite.

Who sees not republican and democratic states, but the United States.

And who will put all his efforts to win the trust of all citizens, ”Biden stressed, addressing the Americans.

According to him, now it is necessary to abandon harsh rhetoric and "reduce the degree of tension."

He called on the Americans to "see each other again, hear each other again."

Biden called the return of respect to the United States one of his priorities.

“I ran for this office to revive the soul of America.

To restore the backbone of our nation - the middle class.

And make America respected around the world again, ”Biden added.

The democrat is confident that he won a "clear victory" in the elections.

However, on November 7, he wrote on Twitter that after the vote, "the level of tension may be high," implying controversy over the election results and citizen protests.

“I know that after such a difficult election, the level of tension can be high.

But we need to stay calm.

And patience.

And not to interfere with the completion of the procedure while all votes are being counted, "Biden said.

Counting difficulties

At the moment, the counting of votes in the United States is still ongoing, however, according to open data and media forecasts, Biden has already received more than 270 electoral votes necessary to win.

The incumbent President Donald Trump does not recognize the victory of his opponent and intends to challenge the election results in court.

“On the evening of election day, I had such a big lead in all these states, but after a few days it disappeared inexplicably.

Perhaps as our litigation progresses, this gap will return, ”the Republican wrote on his Twitter page on November 7.

In particular, the Republican Party has asked the US Supreme Court to prohibit the Pennsylvania authorities from taking any action on ballots received in the mail after November 3.

The court went to meet the Republicans and temporarily ordered state officials to separate the ballots that were received after election day.

As Trump's deputy chief of staff, Justin Clark, said earlier, the head of the White House is seeking "to suspend the counting until real transparency is ensured and Republicans can ensure that all counting is done fairly and in accordance with the law."

“I will not rest until the honest vote counting that they deserve and that democracy demands is done for American citizens,” Trump said.

Meanwhile, in Washington, Capitol Hill has already begun to erect stands for the inauguration ceremony, which is scheduled for January 20.

And Biden received congratulations from a number of foreign leaders, including the NATO secretary general and the head of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The Kremlin has not yet commented on the preliminary results of the American elections.

Experts remind that the current US election campaign has become one of the dirtiest in the history of the country.

Polemising with each other, the candidates did not hesitate to direct mutual insults, black PR and populist attacks.

In addition, the confrontation between Trump and Biden has largely aggravated due to the imperfection of the United States electoral system, political analysts say.

“There has always been a lot of filth and chaos in American election campaigns.

But under Trump, who does not recognize the norms of political correctness, this has all been compounded.

His opponents began to behave in a similar way, sometimes resorting to very harsh expressions, "said Yuri Rogulyov, director of the Franklin Roosevelt Foundation for the Study of the United States at Moscow State University, in a conversation with RT.

Vladimir Bruter, an expert at the International Institute for Humanitarian and Political Research, in a conversation with RT, also noted that during this presidential campaign, unethical behavior became the norm in American politics.

Unfulfilled promises

Meanwhile, according to a number of American media outlets, including The Washington Post, Biden, who calls himself President-elect, plans to sign decrees that will seriously change American policy.

Citing sources, the newspaper writes that Biden plans to restore state participation in the Paris climate agreement and lift the ban on entry to the United States for citizens from certain Muslim countries, which Trump introduced in 2017.

The restrictions applied to residents of Iran, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.

True, as the Washington Post clarified, Biden's desire to radically change the current immigration law may run into opposition from Congress drowning in contradictions.

It should be noted that following the election results, the Republicans retained the advantage in the Senate, while the Democrats retained the majority in the House of Representatives.

According to the American publication Politico, Biden, if he still takes the Oval Office, will have to find a common language with his "old friend" Mitch McConnell, the leader of the Republicans in the upper house of Congress.

"Mitch McConnell will force Joe Biden to discuss with him the candidacy of every minister, every district court judge and every attorney," quotes the publication of the words of Democratic Senator Chris Murphy from Connecticut.

"I can assume that a constitutional crisis will break out almost immediately."

Analysts partly share this point of view.

In their opinion, active cooperation with political opponents in the framework of legislative activity will significantly weaken Biden's position as a potential president and will inevitably disappoint his electorate, as well as the left wing of the Democratic Party, which counted on "progressive reforms."

In addition, experts doubt that Biden will be able to bridge the split in the American establishment and society.

So, according to Vladimir Bruter, in order to unite the country, a democrat, if he does come to the White House, has neither an effective program nor the ability to find reasonable compromises.

“Biden will not unite the Americans because he simply does not know how to do it.

In addition, I can hardly imagine that he will be able to fulfill other campaign promises - to restore the economy, defeat the coronavirus, restore respect for America in the international arena, ”says Bruter.

HSE professor Alexander Domrin is also confident that Biden will not be able to become president for “all Americans,” as he had promised earlier.

According to the expert, one should not take at face value the statements of a democrat that he will certainly "unite the United States and solve many other pressing problems."

“Biden will not be able to become the president that will unite American society.

I come to this conclusion on the basis that over the past four years the democrat has not shown himself in any way.

All of Biden's promises are now being made public, ”says Domrin.

Yuri Rogulev also believes that the democrat has set himself tasks that he is unable to cope with.

The expert does not exclude that even the most ardent supporters of the politician who supported him in the elections, according to the expert, the Americans who supported Biden in the elections will quickly become disappointed in him.

“Biden has never been a charismatic leader who could captivate Americans.

He is a fairly calm, neutral person, a centrist politician.

It will be difficult for him to be in the presidency, because the current situation in America requires the leader to give maximum dedication, energy to solve internal problems, ”concluded Rogulyov.
