"This presidential election is about the spirit of the United States and our willingness to fight for it," said Camella Harris, who became the first female vice president and black vice president in the history of the United States with a presidential victory.

"This is an election for much more than Biden or me," said Harris, a running mate of the Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, on Twitter shortly after Biden's victory was confirmed.

"We have a lot of work to do in front of us," Harris said. "Let's get started."

Born to a black father of Jamaican immigrants and an Indian mother, he will also make a name for himself as the first Asian vice president in the United States.
