Across the Atlantic, Boris Johnson also sent his congratulations via Twitter, also emphasizing the relationship between the two countries.

“The United States is our most important ally and I look forward to working closely together on our common priorities, from climate change to trade to security,” wrote the British Prime Minister.

"I wish him luck and success with all my heart," German Chancellor Angela Merkel reacted.

“Our transatlantic friendship is irreplaceable if we are to overcome the great challenges of our time,” she said, quoted in a tweet from the government spokesperson.

The Italian Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, began his reaction by addressing his "congratulations to the American people and institutions for an exceptional participation of democratic vitality".

"The United States can count on Italy as a strong ally and a strategic partner", added the official, also underlining its will to "strengthen the transatlantic relationship".

For the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, "the EU and the United States are friends and allies […] The Commission stands ready to intensify its cooperation with the new administration and the new Congress."

In France, the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, also congratulated Joe Biden, like a good part of the French political class.
