On Friday evening, death was absent from the famous Sudanese reciter Noreen Muhammad Siddiq, along with 3 other memoris of the Holy Quran, following a traffic accident.

This came according to what was announced by the Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments in Sudan, Nasreddin Mufreh, in a post on his Facebook page.

Mufrah said that he was distressed by the departure of Sheikh Noreen following a traffic accident, and pointed to the death of 3 others who were with him: Ali Yaqoub, Abdullah Awad Al-Karim and Muhannad Al-Kinani, while Sayed bin Omar is receiving treatment.

For his part, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemeti), Vice Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, expressed his condolences on the death of Noreen, adding in a Facebook post that the traffic accident occurred to the Sheikh "while he was on his way back from a missionary trip."

According to local media, the traffic accident occurred 18 km from Omdurman, on their way back from Wadi Halfa in the Northern State, without indicating the nature of the accident.

Who is reciter Noreen?

  • Noreen began to memorize the Qur’an at the hands of the sheikhs of Kataeb in the Bara region of North Kordofan state in the mid-nineties.

  • He was famous among other Sudanese reciters for reciting the Holy Quran with multiple narrations.

  • He was famous for his recitation of the Noble Qur’an in a revered voice that attracted thousands of worshipers to him during the month of Ramadan, and he became the imam of the most famous mosques in the capital, Khartoum.

  • Noreen’s recitation is echoed in public transport vehicles, private cars, the Holy Quran radio, and in markets and shops in and outside Sudan.

  • On behalf of Sudan, he participated in several international competitions, most notably Malaysia and Dubai, where he won its third international prize in the Holy Quran during competition with 83 countries.
