In Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, 61 transfers of Covid-19 patients in intensive care have been carried out over the last two weeks, while the epidemic continues in France.

"We could be saturated if we did not have this dynamic of anticipation", analyzes Jean-Yves Grall, of the ARS, on Saturday on Europe 1.

REPORTAGE

On the tarmac of Lyon-Bron airport, patients in stretcher are embarked with a thousand precautions in a small jet.

In Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, the scene has become commonplace, while more than 60,000 new cases of coronavirus were recorded in France on Friday.

In total in the region, 61 transfers were made in 15 days, including ten on Friday alone.

"We could be saturated if we did not have this dynamic of anticipation by transferring intensive care patients to other regions and to other intensive care units", analyzes Jean-Yves Grall, director of the Regional Health Agency ( ARS), Saturday on Europe 1.

"30 to 40 additional places" needed every day

The doctor explains that "every day" the needs are increasing "from 30 to 40 additional places" in the intensive care units in his region.

Hence these essential transfers, with patients from Lyon, Bourg-en-Bresse and Chambéry sent in particular to the hospitals of Poitiers, Saint-Brieuc and Strasbourg.

Marie Lassaigne, emergency referent at the ARS, indicates that these transfers require heavy logistics: "It mobilizes, at least to fill a plane, at least three health professionals: two doctors, a nurse. The idea is to have a patient who is relatively stable to withstand a transfer. These are patients who are on ventilatory assistance, intubated patients. So indeed, these are patients who have already spent a few days in intensive care. "
