"The investigating authorities of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Astrakhan Region are investigating a criminal case into the negligence of officials of the Moscow Region (municipal formation. - RT)" City of Astrakhan "on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of Russia," the message says.

According to the Investigative Committee, in 2020, the city administration repeatedly received greed from local residents and information from law enforcement and regulatory agencies about clusters of stray dogs and cases of animal attacks on people. 

It is noted that since the beginning of the year in Astrakhan, more than 2 thousand cases of attacks by stray dogs on people, including children, have been recorded (more than 600 cases).

Investigators will also study the version of a possible attack by dogs on a 72-year-old local resident, whose body was found in the reeds in Astrakhan.

In October, Realnoe Vremya reported that a case was initiated in Naberezhnye Chelny over a dog attack on a child.
