The Mulhouse zoo (Haut-Rhin) vaccinated 500 birds on Thursday and Friday against avian influenza, while the risk of introducing this virus is now considered high in 46 French departments.

"The animal teams of the zoological and botanical park of Mulhouse have vaccinated more than 500 birds of 70 different species", indicated, in a press release, the zoo, specifying that this "mass vaccination (...) thus protects all residents feathered from the park ”.

Reinforced protection measures

This vaccination campaign, also carried out last year, was already planned at the time of the publication on Thursday of a decree placing 46 departments (including Haut-Rhin) at "high" risk of introduction of influenza. avian by migratory birds.

The shift to a “high” risk triggers the introduction of enhanced protection measures, including the obligation of confinement or the laying of nets to prevent contact with wild birds for all commercial poultry farms and backyards.
