The resigned president of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, was imprisoned the day before yesterday, in The Hague, after he resigned to face charges brought against him by a special court for committing war crimes during the conflict between the region and Serbian forces.
The Special Court for Kosovo in The Hague said in a statement that the former political leader of the separatist "Kosovo Liberation Army", who has been in power for more than 10 years, was transferred with three other suspects to the "detention center" of the court in the Dutch city.
Tachi (52 years) resigned last Thursday from the presidency of Kosovo "to defend the dignity of the president and Kosovo, as well as the dignity of citizens."
The other accused are the former spokesman for the Kosovar militia, Yaakov Krasnigi, one of Taji's closest political allies, and Kadri Veseli, the intelligence director of the former militias, as well as Recep Salimi, a former prominent figure in it.
The four men are suspected of being responsible for 100 murders, torture and persecution between March 1998 and September 1999.
The court will later announce the date of the defendants' first appearance before it.
The four men had arrived at The Hague in a military plane that took off from Pristina, the capital of Kosovo.
Taji asserts his innocence and accuses international justice of "rewriting history."
The court will later announce the date of the defendants' first appearance before it.
