The game phenomenon Fortnite could soon be available again to owners of Apple's iPhones and iPads thanks to the services of the company Nvidia, according to the British media group BBC.
Fortnite publisher Epic Games recently embarked on a battle against the tech giant, which it criticizes for levying a far too high "tax" (30%) on consumer transactions made through its online store. online App Store.
As a result, it is banned and iPhone and iPad users can no longer download the game since this summer, or, if they already have it, no longer have access to essential updates to its game. good functioning.
But Nvidia, manufacturer of graphics processors, "has developed a version of its GeForce NOW streaming game platform running on the Safari web browser", developed by Apple, explains the BBC.
However, if Apple does not allow games and applications to be downloaded to its devices other than via its AppStore, the group "does not restrict the services that can be used on Safari or other web browsers available on its online store", adds the media.
Nvidia could announce the launch of an improved version of Safari to play with Fortnite before the Christmas holidays, says the BBC, stressing that it is also possible that Fortnite will be excluded from the games offered on Apple devices.
Nvidia, contacted by AFP, stressed that it did not comment on new customers arriving on its service or the availability of new games on platforms that have not yet been launched.
For now, added the group, "it is not confirmed that Fortnite will be available on the GeForce NOW platform elsewhere than on (computers) PC and Mac or on Android", the other dominant operating system with Apple iOS.
Contacted by AFP, Epic Games declined to comment, while Apple did not respond immediately.
The publisher of Fortnite tried this summer to bypass the iOS payment system, and therefore commissions, which led to its ban from the AppStore.
A California judge recently refused to force Apple to reinstall the survival shooter on its devices, as requested by Epic Games.
The conflict between the two groups is heading a priori towards a trial next summer.
